Trip Overview
Walk to the world's highest mountain from the base of Lhotse to the summit of Kala Patthar and experience an all-inclusive luxury expedition at an elevation most EBC trekkers never see. For 14 days, this trek will lead you to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft) and to Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft) - the highest viewpoint on any non-technical hike in the region, while ensconcing your entire journey with 5-star luxury in Kathmandu and the best available lodge accommodation on the entire Khumbu trail. If you wish to tick off one of the greatest trekking achievements without any compromise on quality of experience between walking days, this is the only way to walk the Everest Base Camp trail.
The itinerary will take the classic Khumbu trail fromLukla (2,850 m / 9,350 ft) through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Deboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep to the world-famous Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft). On Day 10, the trekking journey will culminate onKala Patthar(5,545 m / 18,192 ft) - a rocky outcrop above Gorakshep that has been the setting for more photographs and celebratory moments than arguably any other place on earth without the need for technical equipment. From here, the descent will be made through Pangboche and Namche back to Lukla, with a scenic flight to Kathmandu on Day 13, followed by your international departure on Day 14. Two rest and acclimatisation days – one at Namche Bazaar (Day 4) and another at Dingboche (Day 7) – will be factored into the itinerary to help your body to adjust to the changing altitude, ensuring your trek is as safe and enjoyable as possible. Over the course of the trip, you will cover around 130 kilometers over 11 walking days.
Accommodation on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek has been carefully chosen at each altitude point. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be based at either the Marriott Hotel or Yak & Yeti (or other equivalent 5-star property) on a bed and breakfast basis – two of Nepal’s most iconic luxury hotels, offering world-class standards of service, outstanding cuisine and the comfort you need to recharge before and after your challenging adventure. From Day 2 to Day 5, and again from Day 11 and 12, you will sleep in luxury mountain lodges – the premier lodge accommodation chain in the Khumbu, featuring private rooms, high-quality bedding, full meal menus and solar heated water. Days 6 to 10 inclusive (from Deboche to Gorakshep and back via Pangboche) will be spent in the finest of the standard Khumbu mountain lodges – these are functional, clean and comfortable lodges, and while not quite luxury lodges they represent the very best that is available at such high altitudes, as Nepal Adventure Holidays is completely transparent about.
The best months to trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), both of which provide the most favourable weather and clearest views of the peaks. Autumn, with the clearest skies, offers the sharpest mountain contrasts on the trail, whilst spring provides warmth, vibrant rhododendron blooms and the added spectacle of Everest expedition teams busy preparing at Base Camp. This is an intensely challenging trek: the altitude reached at Kala Patthar (5,545 m) requires significant physical fitness, and strict adherence to the acclimatisation regime. Nepal Adventure Holidays includes the services of a highly experienced and licensed Sherpa guide and will look after every logistical detail on your behalf.
Let the 14-day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Nepal Adventure Holidays be your opportunity to complete one of the world's greatest trekking achievements, with unmatched comfort at either end and along the way. Book now and discover the journey of a lifetime.
Itinerary of Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek - 14 days
Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft)
Your Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek begins on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. A Nepal Adventure Holidays representative meets you in the arrivals hall and transfers you by private vehicle to the Marriott Hotel Kathmandu or Yak & Yeti Hotel — two of Nepal's finest 5-star properties, both with long and distinguished associations with Himalayan expeditions and international travel. Check in, settle into your room, and take full advantage of the hotel's facilities: spa, pool, fine dining restaurant, and the kind of attentive service that immediately signals a different category of Nepal experience. In the late afternoon, your lead trekking guide meets you for the pre-trek briefing — a thorough session covering the 14-day itinerary, altitude safety, acclimatization protocol, lodge quality at each stage, permit procedures, packing guidance, and what to expect from the high-altitude sections above Dingboche. A welcome dinner at the hotel's restaurant closes Day 1 properly.
Max. Elevation:1,400 m
Day 02
Fly Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft) to Lukla (2,850 m / 9,350 ft), Trek to Phakding (2,650 m / 8,562 ft)
A private vehicle collects you from the hotel before 5 AM for the drive to Kathmandu's domestic terminal. The 35-minute flight to Lukla on Tara Air or Summit Air is a spectacular introduction to the Khumbu — the aircraft approaches through ridges and mountain walls before a controlled landing on Tenzing-Hillary Airport's legendary steeply uphill runway at 2,850 m. On the ground, Nepal Adventure Holidays organises permits, introduces the porter team, and begins the walk. The trail descends through rhododendron and pine forest alongside the glacial Dudh Koshi River to Phakding (2,650 m / 8,562 ft) — approximately 3 hours of pleasant, easy walking. Your luxury mountain lodge accommodation at Phakding represents an immediate and noticeable step above a standard teahouse: private or near-private rooms, quality bedding, a properly stocked menu, and attentive service. Breakfast only is included at the lodge.
Max. Elevation:2,650 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 03
Phakding (2,650 m / 8,562 ft) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,285 ft) — 6 hours
From Phakding the trail climbs north, crossing the famous Hillary Bridge and several high suspension bridges above the Dudh Koshi — many trekkers catch their first electrifying glimpse of Everest above the ridge here. You enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo (2,835 m) and face the final steep 600-metre climb through dense forest to Namche Bazaar. The town appears at the top of the climb: a horseshoe of colourful lodges and teahouses at 3,440 m (11,285 ft), the commercial and cultural capital of the Sherpa world. Your luxury mountain lodge in Namche is among the finest accommodation in the entire Khumbu — private rooms, quality dining, and views of the surrounding peaks. Eat well, drink plenty of water, and rest: the acclimatization day tomorrow is the foundation of everything that follows.
Max. Elevation:3,440 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 04
Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,285 ft)
The acclimatization day at Namche is non-negotiable and Nepal Adventure Holidays never shortens or skips it. The morning hike follows the 'climb high, sleep low' protocol — ascending to the Everest View Hotel ridge (3,880 m) to stimulate red blood cell production, then returning to sleep at Namche's altitude. The round trip takes 2 to 3 hours at a comfortable pace and delivers a panoramic view of Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Back in Namche, the afternoon is entirely free. Visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Centre, the excellent local bakeries, or simply rest at the luxury lodge. Two nights in Namche at this quality of accommodation gives your body the rest and nutrition it needs before the sustained ascent ahead.
Max. Elevation:3,440 m
Day 05
Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,285 ft) to Deboche (3,820 m / 12,533 ft) — 7 hours
The contour trail out of Namche is one of the most visually spectacular sections of mountain walking in the world. For several hours the path traverses high above the Dudh Koshi valley with continuous views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. The route passes through Khumjung village before descending to Phunki Thanka and climbing through rhododendron and juniper forest to Tengboche. Thyangboche Gompa — the most revered Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu — sits on a ridge at 3,855 m with Ama Dablam directly behind it. If the group arrives in time for the late afternoon puja ceremony, your guide ensures you have the opportunity to attend. The trail continues a short distance below the monastery ridge to Deboche, where your luxury lodge provides the finest available accommodation at this elevation. The walk from Namche to Deboche covers approximately 12 kilometres in 7 hours.
Max. Elevation:3,820 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 06
Deboche (3,820 m / 12,533 ft) to Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) — 6 to 7 hours
Day 07
Acclimatization Day at Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft)
The second and most critical acclimatization day of the trek. At 4,410 m the body is under sustained physiological stress, and the next three days will take you to 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. Today's acclimatization hike follows the standard 'climb high, sleep low' protocol, ascending toward Nagarjun Hill or the lower Chhukung valley (approximately 4,700 to 5,000 m) before returning to sleep at Dingboche. The views from the high point of today's hike encompass Lhotse, Makalu, the Island Peak base area, and the entire Imja valley in one sweep — some of the finest mountain scenery of the entire trek. Nepal Adventure Holidays guides monitor every trekker carefully throughout this day. Eat well, drink 3 to 4 litres of water, rest in the afternoon, and listen carefully to your body's signals. The days above are demanding and your guide's assessment of your readiness takes precedence over your own.
Max. Elevation:4,410 m
Day 08
Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) to Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) — 5 to 6 hours
The trail climbs from Dingboche to the Thukla Pass (4,620 m), where a deeply moving collection of stone memorial chortens honours mountaineers who lost their lives on Everest and the surrounding peaks. The names here are both famous and unknown; all represent lives devoted to the mountains. Above the pass the path follows the rocky lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier through an increasingly stark and otherworldly landscape — boulders, frozen streams, glacial debris, and the constant presence of immense peaks on every horizon. Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) is a cluster of basic lodges at the edge of the glacier. Nepal Adventure Holidays selects the best available lodge for cleanliness and food quality. Tonight is cold, the air is thin, and rest and hydration are more important than anything else. The walk covers 6.5 km in 5 to 6 hours.
Max. Elevation:4,910 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 09
Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) to Gorakshep (5,140 m / 16,448 ft) and Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft) — 7 to 8 hours
The most anticipated day of the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek. Setting off early from Lobuche, the trail crosses the undulating lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier for approximately 3 km before arriving at Gorakshep (5,140 m / 16,994 ft) — a small group of lodges on a frozen lakeside flat at the edge of the Khumbu. Drop packs and eat something. Then the final 3.5 km push to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft): across rough glacial terrain, between towering ice seracs and frozen meltwater channels, until the multicoloured tents of active summit expeditions and the prayer flags of Base Camp come into view. Standing at the foot of the world's highest mountain is a moment that consistently defies adequate description. Your guide allows as much time as the group needs. Return to Gorakshep for the night. Basic lodge accommodation only at Gorakshep — the most basic overnight stop on the trek. The full day covers 7 to 8 hours of walking.
Max. Elevation:5,364 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 10
Kala Patthar Sunrise (5,545 m / 18,192 ft), Trek to Pangboche (4,005 m / 13,139 ft) — 7 to 8 hours
Wake before 4 AM. The pre-dawn climb to Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft) starts in darkness and cold — temperatures well below zero before sunrise. The ascent covers 1.2 km and takes approximately 2 hours of steep, deliberate walking at altitude where the air contains roughly half the oxygen available at sea level. The reward is one of the most celebrated mountain views on Earth: as the first light of day touches the summit of Everest (8,848 m) and slowly illuminates the South Face in shades of gold and rose while everything else remains in shadow, the experience is simply beyond what words manage. After as long as needed at the summit, descend to Gorakshep for breakfast and begin the long walk back — all the way through Lobuche, past the Thukla memorial chortens, through Dingboche and Pheriche, and down to Pangboche (4,005 m / 13,139 ft) — a drop of over 1,500 m in one day. The descent covers approximately 17 km in 7 to 8 hours. Basic lodge at Pangboche for the night.
Max. Elevation:5,545 m
Duration:7-8 Hours
Day 11
Pangboche (4,005 m / 13,139 ft) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,285 ft) — 7 to 8 hours
A long descent day retracing the trail south through familiar and increasingly green terrain. The path passes through Deboche and Tengboche — where a final morning view of Ama Dablam from the monastery ridge is worth a brief stop — before dropping through Phunki Thanka and climbing back to Namche Bazaar. The return to 3,440 m and richer air is noticeably felt by most trekkers: energy improves, appetite returns, and the body responds gratefully to each 100 metres of lost altitude. Namche after the high sections feels almost luxurious — and your return to luxury lodge accommodation here on Day 11 genuinely is. The 19 km walk takes 7 to 8 hours.
Max. Elevation:4,005 m
Duration:7-8 Hours
Day 12
Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,285 ft) to Lukla (2,860 m / 9,384 ft) — 7 to 8 hours
The final trekking day. The trail drops from Namche back down the 600-metre descent to the Dudh Koshi valley, retracing the suspension bridges and forested paths walked on Day 3. The 17 km walk to Lukla takes 7 to 8 hours and covers ground that feels more familiar and somehow more alive on the return. The villages of Phakding and Cheplung pass in a sequence that marks the closing of an extraordinary chapter. Your luxury lodge in Lukla for the final night provides a fitting close to 12 days on the trail. The celebratory dinner with the Nepal Adventure Holidays guide and porter team — dal bhat, cold drinks, tips, handshakes, and the warmth that comes from shared effort — is a tradition that every trekker takes something from.
Max. Elevation:3,440 m
Duration:7-8 Hours
Day 13
Fly Lukla (2,850 m / 9,350 ft) to Kathmandu (1,350 m / 4,429 ft) — 35 minutes
The return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu closes the loop on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek. Weather permitting, the 35-minute flight departs in the early morning and delivers an aerial perspective on the Himalayan foothills that feels entirely different after 12 days of walking at their feet. Back in Kathmandu, the private vehicle transfers you directly to the Marriott or Yak & Yeti for your second 5-star night. The contrast between the Gorakshep lodge four days ago and the hotel room tonight is one of the more memorable experiences of the entire trip. A farewell dinner at the hotel, trek certificates, and a long unhurried conversation about the past 14 days with your guide.
Max. Elevation:2,850 m
Duration:35 min
Day 14
Final Departure from Kathmandu
The last morning. Nepal Adventure Holidays arranges a private vehicle transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport at whatever time your international flight requires. If time allows, the hotel spa, a final breakfast on the terrace, or a short visit to Boudhanath Stupa are all nearby. On clear mornings the Himalayan peaks are visible from the plane as it climbs south — Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, the entire range you have just walked beneath for nearly two weeks. Worth one final look.
Max. Elevation:1,400 m

Essential Information
Accommodation on Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
This itinerary applies a carefully stratified accommodation structure that is an honest representation of the available facilities at each stage of the trek. In Kathmandu, enjoy 2 nights at the 5 Marriott Hotel Kathmandu or 5 Yak & Yeti Hotel (or similar) on a bed and breakfast basis, giving a high quality launch and landing pad to your trip. These are globally recognized 5* luxury hotels, offering superior service, fine dining, and luxury amenities for after your long-haul flight and on return. On Days 2 through to Days 5 and returning Days 11 and 12 (i.e. On the ground to Phakding, Namche, Deboche, back up to Namche and on to Lukla) we utilize the best luxury mountain lodges on the Everest Base Camp trek; the Khumbu's premium lodge network offers rooms for either private use or with very few other occupants. They have quality duvets, bedding and sleeping mats, private ensuite facilities for all, solar heated water for your shower, highly trained kitchen teams and provide an elevated level of comfort far above the standard trekking tea-house lodges.
Nepal Adventure Holidays chooses lodges based on consistent high standards of hygiene and service and their premier position commanding mountain views. For Days 6 through to Day 10 (i.e. As you trek to and explore the higher altitudes, from Dingboche 4,410m, through Lobuche, Gorakshep, Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and Pangboche) accommodation will be in the best available, most comfortable of the basic mountain lodges. There are no "luxury" lodge networks at this altitude offering a similar standard to the lower Khumbu, Nepal Adventure Holidays remains up front about this from the start and, frankly, they all offer an almost identical basic level of comfort, are well cleaned, run by efficient teams and provide a solid level of service, all include an evening dinner. Breakfasts are provided at all accommodation, lunch and dinner will be as per your own choice and expense from the menu of the lodge and tea house you are staying in. This flexibility also allows you to tailor your daily food budget and choices in the mountains.
Transportation and Flights on Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
You begin with a quick, thirty-five minute domestic flight from Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport) to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla (2,850 m). These flights are exclusively run by Tara Air or Summit Air, and take off very early in the morning (usually between 6 and 8 AM) as clouds often obscure the runway later in the morning. All arrangements for domestic flight reservations, check-in, and private vehicle transfers from/to the airport are handled by Nepal Adventure Holidays. Once you’ve settled into your 5-star hotel in Kathmandu (as planned on your itinerary), a private vehicle will pick you up on the morning of Day 2, around 5 AM, for the short transfer to the domestic terminal.
Return flights from Lukla back to Kathmandu (Day 13) are of the same duration, just in reverse. Be aware that weather delays can occur on both legs of the flight into/out of Lukla, so always book your international connection one day beyond the day of your Lukla departure, if possible. Flights from Lukla may fly into/out of Ramechhap during certain times of the year due to local conditions, but Nepal Adventure Holidays handles all the arrangements for this if required. All Kathmandu private vehicle transfers are covered in the package price..
Food and Dining at Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
All the accommodation on this package is on a bed and breakfast basis - this means your breakfast at the luxury 5 star hotel in Kathmandu, luxury mountain lodges (Days 2 - 5 and Days 11 & 12), and our simpler mountain lodges (Days 6 - 10) is provided, and all your lunches and dinners on the trail are paid for locally at the time. You will order meals directly from the menus at each lodging point and are therefore free to manage your own dietary preferences and spending.
The menus in the luxury mountain lodges are a much more extensive and higher quality affair than at basic teahouses, with more choice in the proteins and food, freshly baked bread is available on most menus and presentation quality is much higher, the menus in the higher lodging points (e.g. Lobuche, Dingboche and Gorakshep) can be a little restricted but they remain sufficient. Please allow for around US$ 25 - US$ 50 per day for lunches and dinners at these lodges and restaurants on the trek. Purification tablets for water are included - use these to clean water instead of buying bottled water at altitude.
Permits for Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
All trekking permits are included in the package and prepared by Nepal Adventure Holidays before departure:
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit — checked at the official Monjo gate between Phakding and Namche Bazaar
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit — checked at Lukla and at various points along the route
TIMS Card (Trekkers' Information Management System) — included for all Nepal Adventure Holidays package trekkers
Carry all permits on your person at all times — do not store them in the porter's duffel bag
Permit checks occur at Monjo, Namche, and at higher trail checkpoints — all coordinated by your guide
Difficulty and Fitness Requirements for Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
Rating The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is rated as tough. While luxury lodging helps immeasurably in providing a comfortable place to recover, the physically challenging aspects of reaching 5,545 m on Kala Patthar remain in effect. At this height, the air has approximately half the oxygen as at sea level and you are subject to continuous physiological stress from Day 6 of the itinerary onwards. The path to Gorakshep, Base Camp, and the pre-dawn trip to Kala Patthar, is over difficult glacial moraine requiring careful foot placing and physical fitness.
You should expect walking times ranging from 3 hours on acclimatization days to 7-8 hours on the long downhill stages. It is critical that anyone attempting this trek should have a dedicated training plan over 10-12 weeks to improve their cardiovascular health, carry a load for some time walking up and down hills and strengthen their leg muscles. We have expert guides in Nepal who can assess your fitness and your reaction to altitude all the way up the mountain; we don't let anyone go to the top against our judgment, no matter what their desires may be.
Acclimatization on Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
There are two designated acclimatization days, where we stay in the same location or just up the trail to rest and allow our bodies to adjust to the altitude. These occur on day 4 in Namche Bazaar (3,440m) with a trek to Everest View Hotel (3,880m) and again on day 7 in Dingboche (4,410m) with a trek to circa 4,700m - 5,000m. These both follow the ‘climb high sleep low’ system. The Dingboche acclimatization day is the key day in many ways.
This is your practice day for the approaches to Lobuche, Gorakshep, Base Camp and Kala Patthar and this should not be cut short. With the luxury lodges in Namche and Deboche, the acclimatisation days are made much more effective and recuperative than would be the case with normal teahouses. You get quality sleep, good nutrition and warm common areas which assist the body's adaptation. Guides at Nepal Adventure Holidays check each trekker individually from Namche onwards.
Altitude Sickness at Luxury EBC Trek
Who Gets AMS? AMS affects anyone traveling above 2,500m regardless of their fitness level, age, previous trekking experience or history of the condition. Anyone trekking up Kala Patthar (5,545m) and EBC (5,364m) faces a real possibility of the illness, and it must be taken seriously. What is AMS? Common mild AMS symptoms (headache, nausea, fatigue, sleep disturbance) are very normal at 4,000m, and a night’s rest at the same elevation will clear them up. If you get more severe symptoms like water filling your lungs (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema, or HAPE) or brain (High Altitude Cerebral Edema, or HACE) you must descend immediately or be evacuated by helicopter to an emergency hospital.
Our guides are skilled at detecting altitude sickness and administering the appropriate first response treatment. The helicopter landing sites are located in Namche, Pheriche, and Tengboche. Travel insurance with helicopter rescue to an altitude of 6,000m is mandatory for trekking in the region. We do not offer optional insurance for this; you must arrange your own. Talk to your doctor prior to the trek about possibly using Diamox (Acetazolamide) to prevent altitude sickness.
Travel Insurance for Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
This trekking needs comprehensive travel insurance policy and it isn't supplied as part of this trekking deal. Make certain your policy has provisions for high altitude trekking up to and over 6,000m, and also includes emergency helicopter get-away. For instance, the price to charter a helicopter from Gorakshep up to Kathmandu is USD4,000-USD6,000 if you don't have an insurance policy. Keep in mind to bring printed policy details and also your emergency situation help number with you. Give a duplicate to Nepal Adventure Holidays prior to you leaving Lukla - we will assist facilitate the get-away on your behalf and need authorisation from your insurer without delay if a situation emerges. 2 Great, trusted suppliers include World Nomads, Covermore and Battleface.

Three things: the 5-star hotel accommodation in Kathmandu (Marriott or Yak & Yeti on bed and breakfast basis), premium luxury mountain lodge accommodation on the lower and return sections of the trail (Days 2 to 5 and Days 11 to 12), and the Nepal Adventure Holidays service standard throughout — licensed and experienced guide, properly equipped and insured porter team, and full logistical management from arrival to departure.
Why does accommodation change to basic lodges above Dingboche?
No luxury lodge network operates at the standard of the lower Khumbu properties above Dingboche (4,410 m). At Lobuche, Gorakshep, and the higher sections of the trail, the best available accommodation is well-managed basic mountain lodges. Nepal Adventure Holidays is transparent about this — it reflects the genuine reality of high-altitude logistics in the Khumbu, not a compromise in the package design. The luxury lodges on the lower trail make the acclimatization days significantly more comfortable, which directly supports performance at the higher altitudes.
What is the difference between the Marriott and the Yak & Yeti in Kathmandu?
Both are 5-star properties with excellent facilities. The Marriott Hotel Kathmandu is a modern international-standard hotel in Naxal, close to the diplomatic quarter, with premium rooms, a well-regarded restaurant, spa, and pool. The Yak & Yeti is a historic colonial-era Rana palace in Durbarmarg, with beautifully appointed rooms, multiple dining options, spa, and a long association with Himalayan mountaineering. Nepal Adventure Holidays allocates based on availability at the time of booking. Both deliver a comparable high-quality experience.
Does this trek reach Kala Patthar?
Yes. Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft) is the highest point of this itinerary and one of its defining experiences. The pre-dawn ascent from Gorakshep on Day 10 takes approximately 2 hours and delivers the most celebrated sunrise view of Everest's South Face available to non-technical trekkers anywhere in Nepal. Reaching Kala Patthar requires good physical condition and a proper acclimatization schedule — both are built into this itinerary.
Is there an acclimatization day at Dingboche?
Yes — Day 7 is a full acclimatization day at Dingboche (4,410 m). This is the most important acclimatization stop on the trek and is never shortened or skipped by Nepal Adventure Holidays. The acclimatization hike ascends to approximately 4,700 to 5,000 m before returning to sleep at Dingboche, following the 'climb high, sleep low' protocol. This day is the preparation for the three demanding days that follow — Lobuche, Gorakshep/Base Camp, and Kala Patthar.
What meals are included?
All accommodation is on a breakfast-only basis. Breakfast is included at the 5-star hotels in Kathmandu (Days 1 and 13), at the luxury mountain lodges (Days 2 to 5 and Days 11 to 12), and at the basic mountain lodges (Days 6 to 10). Lunch and dinner throughout the trek are at your own expense from the lodge or teahouse menu. This B&B structure gives you full flexibility over food choices and daily spending. Budget approximately USD 25 to 50 per day for lunch and dinner on the mountain.
What permits are required?
The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit, and a TIMS Card — all included in the package and prepared by Nepal Adventure Holidays before departure.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes — mandatory. Your policy must cover high-altitude trekking to at least 6,000 m and emergency helicopter evacuation. This is non-negotiable for a trek reaching 5,545 m. Provide a copy of your policy and emergency assistance number to Nepal Adventure Holidays before departing for Lukla. Recommended providers: World Nomads, Covermore, Battleface.
How many trekking days does this itinerary have?
The 14-day itinerary includes 11 active trekking or hiking days (Days 2 through 12), 2 acclimatization days (Days 4 and 7), 2 flight days (Days 2 and 13), and 2 hotel days in Kathmandu (Days 1 and 14). The longest trekking days are Day 10 (Kala Patthar + descent to Pangboche: 17 km, 7 to 8 hours) and Day 11 (Pangboche to Namche: 19 km, 7 to 8 hours).
Can I combine this with the helicopter return option?
Yes. Nepal Adventure Holidays can customize this itinerary to include a charter helicopter return from Gorakshep to Kathmandu on Day 10 (after the Kala Patthar hike), eliminating the 3-day walking descent and replacing it with a 45-minute aerial return over the Himalayan range. Contact us for pricing and availability of the helicopter return upgrade for this itinerary.
This tour covers a lot in one day, so be prepared for some walking! The guide was patient and answered all our questions. The only minor issue was the midday heat, but the company provided water, which helped. Overall, a great way to see Kathmandu’s UNESCO treasures in a short time.

Best Trekking Company in Nepal!
From the moment we booked, the team at Nepal Adventure Holidays was professional and attentive. The Manaslu trek was challenging but rewarding, with diverse landscapes from lush forests to high-altitude passes. The porters were friendly, and the food was surprisingly good. Will trek with them again!
