Trip Overview
Everest View Trek
Amazing Himalayan adventures don't always have to mean weeks on the trail and extreme altitudes. The Everest View Trek is proof. Catered to the busy traveler, beginner trekker, families, the older trekker, or anyone just looking to see the view from in front of one of the world's most spectacular mountains without needing a major expedition, this 7-day package delivers the "Essence of Khumbu" in a manageable, accessible, 7-day package. From arrival at the iconic Lukla airstrip to a trek through the rhododendron and pine forests of the Dudh Koshi valley, and up to the doorway of the trekking world: Namche Bazaar, this itinerary culminates in a trek to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m)- the world's highest placed hotel, perched on a ridge with a clear, panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and the rest of the high peaks of the Upper Khumbu. This view is arguably the finest available from a trek in Nepal at this timeframe.
Approximately 40-50 km are covered on the Everest View Trek during 4 days of walking. This itinerary begins with arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m) and the next morning a 35 minute Domestic flight to Lukla (2,850m). From Lukla, Day 2 trek through rhododendron and pine forests down to Phakding (2,610m), followed by Day 3's famous trek up to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) passing suspension bridges high above the Dudh Koshi River; entering Sagarmatha National Park; arriving at the horseshoe shaped town that is the commercial and cultural center of the Sherpa world. Day 4 is an acclimatization trek from Namche Bazaar to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m); this is the highest elevation on this trek and the destination that lends this itinerary its name. On Day 5 the trek descends back to Lukla. Day 6 will have your return flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, and the last day: Day 7; departure from Kathmandu.
The altitude of the Everest View Trek is extremely accessible. The highest elevation of 3,880 m is enough to provide genuine immersion into mountain surroundings and acclimatization experience, without the significant risk of high altitude mountain sickness experienced at higher elevations on other treks, provided that one has prepared for their mountain journey. Passing through Sagarmatha National Park, a World Heritage Site that is protecting the mountain ecosystem itself, the native fauna and flora and the living culture of the Sherpa peoples who have lived in these valleys for centuries, the path is dotted with prayer flag draped suspension bridges, mani walls carved with Buddhist sutras, and passing through villages where yaks are still the primary mode of transport. An experienced Sherpa guide from Nepal Adventure Holidays will bring this world to life in a way you simply can't do on your own.
One great advantage to trekking the Everest View Trek is that it is possible to do it year round. Long distance trekking routes are basically closed to the traveler during the monsoon and winter months, but The Everest View Trek can be accomplished every single month of the year given flexibility with weather.
Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) have the clearest views and best weather for trekking, but winter treks to Namche Bazaar and the Everest View Hotel can be enjoyed by the experienced, cold-weather trekkers. No matter your travel schedule, this trek will fit into it. Book an Everest View Trek with Nepal Adventure Holidays and we'll arrange every aspect of your trip from greeting you at the airport and transferring you to your hotel all the way through your farewell and onward to international departure.
Itinerary of Everest View Trek 7 Days - 7 days
Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft)
Your Everest View Trek begins on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. A Nepal Adventure Holidays representative will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name board to transfer you by private vehicle to the Kantipur Village Hotel — a characterful deluxe 3-star property in the heart of the Thamel district, built in traditional Newari architectural style and one of the most atmospheric hotels in central Kathmandu. After settling in and freshening up, your lead trekking guide will meet you in the early evening for the pre-trek briefing. This is a practical session covering the 7-day itinerary, altitude safety and acclimatization basics, permit logistics, packing advice for the trail, and what to expect from teahouse accommodation. Thamel is lively and walkable — good restaurants, gear shops, cafes, and souvenir markets are all within easy reach of the hotel. A welcome dinner at a local restaurant and an early night is the recommended plan: the Lukla flight departs before sunrise tomorrow morning.
Max. Elevation:1,400 m
Day 02
Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2,850 m), Trek to Phakding (2,610 m) — 35 min flight + 3 hours trek
The morning begins with a private vehicle transfer to Kathmandu's domestic terminal in the early hours, followed by the 35-minute flight to Lukla on Tara Air or Summit Air. The landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport (2,850 m) is, by most accounts, one of the most exhilarating experiences of the entire trip — a short, steeply uphill runway carved into the mountainside, approached between ridges and high valley walls in a plane that fills every window with sky and rock. Once on the ground in Lukla, bags are sorted, the porter team is introduced, and the trek officially begins. The trail heads north from Lukla, descending gradually through pine and rhododendron forest alongside the Dudh Koshi River — Nepal's fastest-flowing river in this section, glacier-fed and turquoise even in the dry season. The walk to Phakding (2,610 m) takes approximately 3 hours through the small villages of Cheplung and Ghat. Phakding is a pleasant, relaxed teahouse settlement beside the river, well-supplied and popular with trekkers arriving on the same morning flights. The first afternoon is short and easy — a deliberate design choice that lets the legs warm up and the mind settle into the rhythm of the trail before the bigger climb tomorrow.
Max. Elevation:2,850 m
Duration:35 min flight + 3 hours trek
Day 03
Trek Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) — 6 hours
The day that defines the Everest View Trek. From Phakding the trail climbs steadily northward, crossing a series of increasingly dramatic suspension bridges strung high above the turquoise Dudh Koshi River. The Hillary Bridge — the highest of these crossings at roughly 60 metres above the river — is where most trekkers first spot Mount Everest appearing briefly above the ridge ahead, a moment that tends to stop people mid-step regardless of how many photographs they have seen. You enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo (2,835 m), where park rangers check permits at the official gate — a threshold that marks the beginning of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beyond Monjo the valley narrows and the trail climbs steeply through dense forest for the final 600 metres to Namche Bazaar. The town arrives suddenly and spectacularly: a horseshoe of brightly coloured lodges, bakeries, gear shops, and teahouses set into the natural amphitheatre of a high Himalayan ridge at 3,440 m, with the snow-capped peaks of Kongde Ri closing the horizon above the rooflines. The full walk from Phakding to Namche takes approximately 6 hours and covers around 11 kilometres. Namche is the best-equipped and most comfortable stop on the trek — eat a good dinner, drink plenty of water, and get to bed at a sensible hour.
Max. Elevation:3,440 m
Duration:6 hours
Distance:10-12 km
Day 04
Acclimatization Hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) — 2 to 3 hours
The centrepiece of the Everest View Trek. The morning hike from Namche to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) follows a well-maintained trail through the upper reaches of the town, past the Sherpa Culture Museum and the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Centre, before climbing to the famous ridge-top hotel. The Everest View Hotel is precisely what its name promises: a panoramic viewing platform at 3,880 m with a direct, unobstructed sightline to the South Face of Mount Everest (8,848 m), flanked by Lhotse (8,516 m) and Nuptse to the right, and the impossibly elegant pyramid of Ama Dablam (6,812 m) rising above the valley to the south. On a clear morning, the view from this ridge is one of the finest mountain panoramas accessible to non-technical trekkers anywhere on Earth. The round-trip hike from Namche to the hotel and back takes 2 to 3 hours at a comfortable pace. This day also functions as the acclimatization stop: spending time at 3,880 m before sleeping at Namche's lower altitude follows the proven 'climb high, sleep low' protocol that significantly reduces altitude sickness risk. The afternoon in Namche is free — visit the museum, explore the town, enjoy a cake from one of the excellent bakeries, or simply sit at a teahouse window and watch Everest catch the afternoon light.
Max. Elevation:3,880 m
Duration:2 to 3 hours
Day 05
Trek Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,850 m) — 5 to 6 hours
The return journey from Namche to Lukla is a full day of walking — approximately 18 to 19 kilometres over 5 to 6 hours — but the descending altitude makes it noticeably more comfortable than the equivalent distance felt on the way up. The trail retraces the path south through the familiar forest and suspension bridges, the Dudh Koshi River accompanying the walk as a constant companion below the trail. The views are different on the return: peaks that were ahead of you going north are now behind, and the quality of light in the afternoon gives the valley a different character from the sharper morning colours of Day 3. The villages of Jorsale, Phakding, and Cheplung pass in sequence as the altitude drops and the breathing eases. The final climb up to Lukla takes about 45 minutes and arrives in the afternoon with time to spare for a celebratory dinner with the guide and porter team — dal bhat, cold drinks, handshakes, and the particular warmth that comes from 4 days of walking together in the mountains. The Lukla flight leaves early tomorrow.
Max. Elevation:2,850 m
Duration:5 to 6 hours
Distance:18 to 19 km
Day 06
Fly Lukla to Kathmandu (1,400 m) — 35 minutes
The return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu closes the loop on the Everest View Trek. The 35-minute flight departs in the early morning, weather permitting — Lukla flights require clear visibility in the valley and delays are possible if cloud cover is present at departure time. Be at the airstrip early and stay flexible. The flight back crosses the same foothills and ridges that looked so dramatic on the way in, and the aerial perspective of the Himalayan landscape from 3,000 metres altitude is a fitting finale to the trek. Back in Kathmandu, the rest of the day is completely yours. The standard post-trek sequence — sleep, eat something that is not dal bhat, get a massage, wander Thamel for souvenirs — is a deeply satisfying way to close out the experience. Nepal Adventure Holidays arranges a farewell dinner in the evening at a good Kathmandu restaurant, with trek certificates, group photos, and the kind of unhurried conversation that only happens between people who have shared a mountain trail.
Max. Elevation:1,400 m
Duration:35 min
Day 07
Final Departure from Kathmandu
The last morning of your Everest View Trek. Depending on your international departure time, the morning may include a final walk through Thamel, a visit to Boudhanath Stupa — one of the largest and most sacred Buddhist monuments in the world, 20 minutes from the hotel — or a slow breakfast on the hotel terrace. Nepal Adventure Holidays arranges your private vehicle transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport at whatever time your flight requires. On clear mornings, the Himalayan range is visible from the plane window as the flight climbs south over the Kathmandu valley — the same peaks you walked beneath for the past five days, now a distant white line above the horizon. Worth one last look.

Everest View Trek 7 Days FAQs
Can I see Mount Everest on the Everest View Trek?
Yes — and it is the highlight of the entire trip. The Everest View Hotel sits at 3,880 m on a ridge with a direct, unobstructed sightline to the South Face of Mount Everest (8,848 m). On a clear morning, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam are all simultaneously visible from the hotel terrace. The best visibility is typically in the early morning before cloud builds in the valley. The first partial sighting usually comes near the Hillary Bridge on Day 3.
Is the Everest View Trek suitable for beginners?
Yes — it is specifically designed for beginners, first-time Himalayan trekkers, families, older adventurers, and travellers on a tight schedule. The maximum altitude of 3,880 m is the most manageable of any Everest region trek. No prior trekking or high-altitude experience is required. A basic level of fitness and the ability to walk 5 to 6 hours comfortably is all that is needed.
Can children do the Everest View Trek?
Yes. The Everest View Trek is suitable for older children and teenagers in good health. Children aged 12 and above with a reasonable level of fitness can complete this trek comfortably. Younger children (8 to 12) have completed it successfully with supportive guides and an appropriate pace. Nepal Adventure Holidays can advise on the best approach for families with children of specific ages — contact us before booking for a tailored assessment.
What is the best time of year for the Everest View Trek?
The trek can be done year-round, making it one of the most flexible Himalayan trekking options available. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the clearest mountain views and most stable weather. Winter (December to February) treks are cold but possible, with quiet trails and excellent visibility on clear days. Monsoon (June to August) brings rain and reduced visibility but the trail remains walkable and is particularly lush and green.
How difficult is the climb to the Everest View Hotel?
The hike from Namche Bazaar to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) is a moderate 2 to 3 hour walk on a well-maintained trail with a net elevation gain of approximately 440 m from Namche. The path climbs steadily through the upper section of the town and along a ridge, with mountain views opening progressively as you gain height. Most trekkers of average fitness find it manageable at a slow, steady pace. The altitude is the main consideration, not the terrain difficulty.
What hotel is included in Kathmandu?
Your Kathmandu accommodation is the Kantipur Village Hotel or a similar deluxe 3-star property. The Kantipur Village is a beautiful Newari-style boutique hotel in Thamel with characterful architecture, comfortable rooms, a garden courtyard, and a good on-site restaurant. Breakfast is included on all Kathmandu nights.
Are meals included?
Yes. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included at teahouses on all 4 trekking days (Days 2 to 5). Hotel breakfast is included in Kathmandu. Main meals in Kathmandu restaurants outside the hotel are at your own expense. Drinks, desserts, mineral water, and hot showers on the trail are paid directly at teahouses and are not included.
What permits do I need?
The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit, and a TIMS Card. All three are included in the Nepal Adventure Holidays package and prepared before departure. You do not need to arrange anything separately.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes, it is mandatory. You must carry a policy that covers high-altitude trekking to at least 6,000 m and emergency helicopter evacuation, even though this trek's maximum altitude is 3,880 m. Leave a copy of your policy and emergency number with our office before heading to Lukla. Recommended providers: World Nomads, Covermore, Battleface.
What happens if the Lukla flight is delayed?
Lukla flight delays due to weather are common and are part of trekking life in the Khumbu. Nepal Adventure Holidays monitors all flight statuses and will rebook or reroute through Ramechhap Airport if delays are extended. We strongly recommend building at least one buffer day into your international connection. Our Kathmandu office is available seven days a week to manage any flight logistics on your behalf.
Can I extend the trek beyond Namche?
Yes. The Everest View Trek can be extended to include Tengboche (Day 5 option), or converted to the full 9-day or 14-day Everest Base Camp package. Nepal Adventure Holidays can arrange extensions with minimal advance notice if you decide on the trail that you want to continue. Contact our Kathmandu office and we will adjust the itinerary, permits, and teahouse bookings accordingly.
How much spending money do I need on the trek?
The main personal expenses on the trail are drinks (USD 1 to 3 per item), hot showers (USD 2 to 4 per shower), Wi-Fi fees (USD 2 to 5 per session), and tips for your guide, porter, and driver. As a general guide, budgeting USD 20 to 30 per day for personal trail expenses plus USD 30 to 50 per day for the guide tip and USD 15 to 25 for the porter tip over the full trek is reasonable. Tips are not mandatory but are deeply appreciated by the local team.
This tour covers a lot in one day, so be prepared for some walking! The guide was patient and answered all our questions. The only minor issue was the midday heat, but the company provided water, which helped. Overall, a great way to see Kathmandu’s UNESCO treasures in a short time.
