Trip Overview
Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
This is quite simply the finest way possible to experience the world's most famous trekking destination: Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return. For trekkers who want the ultimate Everest Base Camp achievement, but refuse to compromise on comfort, speed or the quality of the trekking experience at every stage, this 10-day tour from Nepal Adventure Holidays combines a classic trek along the Khumbu with a luxury 5-star hotel in Kathmandu, a premium trek with excellent lodge standards, and a private charter helicopter return directly from Gorakshep to Kathmandu - cutting what is conventionally a 5-day return trek down to just a 45-minute aerial journey over the greatest and most majestic of the world's mountain landscapes. Everest Base Camp, redefined. For those who have earned the privilege of doing it properly.
The 10-day itinerary traverses the classic EBC route from Lukla (2,850 m) through Phakding (2,610 m / 8,352 ft), Namche Bazaar (3,340 m / 11,008 ft), Tengboche/Deboche (3,860 m / 12,352 ft), Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) and Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) before ending the 9 day trek on the mountain at Gorakshep (5,140 m / 16,448 ft) before ascending Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,165 ft). The following day, day 9 of your holiday, will see you board a private helicopter from Gorakshep, which will fly you directly to Kathmandu, delivering unmatched views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and the Khumbu Himalayan range to those whose efforts deserve something beyond the standard approach. The helicopter lands in Kathmandu in time to check into the finest of the city’s 5-star hotels - either the historic Yak & Yeti Hotel or the excellent Soaltee Crowne Plaza – before heading home on day 10.
Where this trek truly distinguishes itself from a standard EBC trekking package is the standard of the accommodation. In Kathmandu, you are put up at either the Yak & Yeti Hotel or the Soaltee Crowne Plaza on a bed & breakfast basis – two world-class 5-star hotels that pride themselves on their immaculate service, fine dining restaurants and truly appreciable comforts following your international arrival or strenuous day trekking on the mountain. On the mountain, accommodation is arranged through Mountain Lodges of Nepal (MLN) wherever possible. The foremost provider of luxury lodges in the Khumbu, MLN lodges have private en-suite rooms, quality bedding, delicious cuisine and offer a level of comfort that sets them apart from standard teahouses. MLN lodges are available at Phakding, Namche, Tengboche/Deboche, Dingboche and Lobuche, providing consistent standards throughout your mountain journey. Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek with Helicopter Return is a B&B on the mountain – breakfast will be included in your lodge/teahouse stay, while lunches and dinners are purchased as required from menus at the relevant lodges/teahouses allowing for maximum flexibility regarding your dining choices.
Both spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are considered ideal seasons to trek this route, offering consistent flying conditions for your helicopter transfer back to Kathmandu and the most favourable mountain visibility and trail conditions. Autumn-and October in particular-are by far the most popular times with the crispiest views between peaks and dry clear air. Spring will be a good time for milder temperatures and observing the vibrant summit bid expeditions camped at Base Camp. This trek is classified moderate to strenuous, and the altitudes reached at Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Gorakshep (5,140m) require genuine respect and careful acclimatisation on the approach from Dingboche, with days at this altitude being physically demanding. A licensed, insured and English-speaking Sherpa guide is provided for the trek and all logistics are handled seamlessly by Nepal Adventure Holidays from the moment you arrive in Kathmandu until your departure. Book your Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return with Nepal Adventure Holidays and reach the summit of the world without compromise.
Itinerary of Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return - 10 days
Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft)
Your Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek begins with arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. A Nepal Adventure Holidays representative meets you in the arrivals hall and transfers you by private vehicle to the Yak & Yeti Hotel or Soaltee Crowne Plaza — two of Nepal's most prestigious 5-star properties, both with a long history of hosting Everest expeditions, international dignitaries, and discerning travellers. Check in, settle into your room, and take the time to genuinely relax after your journey. The hotel's facilities — pool, spa, fine dining restaurant, and bar — are all available, and the service standard immediately signals that this is a different category of Nepal travel experience. In the late afternoon or evening, your lead trekking guide from Nepal Adventure Holidays will meet you for the pre-trek briefing: a thorough session covering the 10-day itinerary, altitude safety and acclimatization protocol, what to expect from each day on the mountain, lodge quality at each stop, and the helicopter return logistics. A welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant sets the right tone before the early departure tomorrow.
Max. Elevation:1,400 m
Day 02
Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2,850 m), Trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,352 ft)
A private vehicle collects you from the hotel before 5 AM for the drive to Kathmandu's domestic terminal. The 35-minute mountain flight to Lukla on Tara Air or Summit Air is a spectacular start to the trek — the aircraft approaches between ridges and drops onto Tenzing-Hillary Airport's steeply uphill runway, one of the world's most famous and dramatic landing strips. On the ground in Lukla, Nepal Adventure Holidays sorts permits, introduces the porter team, and begins the walk. The trail descends gradually through rhododendron and pine forest alongside the glacial Dudh Koshi River to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,352 ft), approximately 3 hours of easy, pleasant walking through the villages of Cheplung and Ghat. Your Mountain Lodges of Nepal accommodation at Phakding is a marked step above standard teahouse rooms — private en-suite or near-private facilities, quality bedding, and a warm dining room with a proper menu. Breakfast only is included at the lodge; dinner tonight is from the lodge menu at your own expense.
Max. Elevation:2,610 m
Duration:4-5 Hour
Day 03
Phakding (2,610 m / 8,352 ft) to Namche Bazaar (3,340 m / 11,008 ft) — 6 hours
The trail from Phakding climbs steadily north, crossing the famous Hillary Bridge and several other high suspension bridges above the turquoise Dudh Koshi, where many trekkers catch their first unforgettable glimpse of Everest rising above the ridge ahead. You enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, where rangers check permits, before beginning the final steep 600-metre climb to Namche Bazaar through dense forest. Namche arrives suddenly: a horseshoe of colourful lodges, shops, and teahouses at 3,340 m (11,008 ft), the commercial and cultural capital of the Sherpa world. Your Mountain Lodges of Nepal property in Namche is the finest accommodation in town — private rooms, quality dining, and views of the surrounding peaks that make the two nights here genuinely enjoyable rather than merely functional. The full walk from Phakding covers approximately 11 kilometres in 6 hours. Eat well, hydrate thoroughly, and rest: the acclimatization day tomorrow is important.
Max. Elevation:3,340 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 04
Rest and Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar (3,340 m / 11,008 ft)
The acclimatization day at Namche is non-negotiable and is the foundation of safe progress to Everest Base Camp. Following the 'climb high, sleep low' protocol, the morning hike climbs from Namche through the upper town to the Everest View Hotel ridge (3,880 m), where one of the finest panoramic mountain views in Nepal unfolds: Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku all simultaneously visible on a clear morning. Nepal Adventure Holidays guides are experienced in timing this hike for the best light and the clearest conditions. The round trip takes 2 to 3 hours at a comfortable pace. Returning to sleep at Namche consolidates the acclimatization process. The afternoon is free — the Sherpa Culture Museum, the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Centre, the bakeries, and the gear shops of Namche are all worth exploring. The luxury lodge makes this rest day genuinely comfortable: good food, warm common areas, and the kind of service that makes altitude feel slightly less demanding.
Max. Elevation:3,340 m
Day 05
Namche Bazaar (3,340 m / 11,008 ft) to Tengboche / Deboche (3,860 m / 12,352 ft) — 5 hours
The contour trail out of Namche is one of the most spectacular mountain walks in the world — a high path above the Dudh Koshi valley with near-constant views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the impossibly elegant Ama Dablam for several hours of walking. The route descends to Phunki Thanka before the final climb through rhododendron and juniper forest to the Tengboche ridge. Thyangboche Gompa — the most revered Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu — sits at the very top of this climb, framed by Ama Dablam directly behind it. If the group arrives in time for the late afternoon puja ceremony, your guide will ensure you have the opportunity to attend: monks in burgundy robes chanting beneath yak butter lamps while the Himalayan peaks catch the last light behind the monastery windows. Mountain Lodges of Nepal accommodation at Deboche, just below the monastery ridge, provides a comfortable and characterful base. The walk from Namche to Tengboche covers approximately 9 kilometres in 5 hours.
Max. Elevation:3,860 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 06
Tengboche / Deboche (3,860 m / 12,352 ft) to Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) — 5 to 6 hours
From Deboche the trail descends through juniper forest to cross the Imja Khola before climbing steadily through increasingly open, high-alpine terrain past Pangboche — home to the oldest monastery in the Khumbu, worth a brief stop. The landscape changes noticeably above 4,000 m: trees disappear, yak pastures appear, and the scale of the surrounding peaks — Lhotse's enormous south face, the Chhukung ridge, the distant peak of Makalu on the horizon — becomes increasingly dramatic. Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) sits in a wide, wind-swept valley framed by high ridges and stone-walled yak pastures. The Mountain Lodges of Nepal property in Dingboche represents some of the finest high-altitude accommodation available in the Khumbu at this elevation — private rooms, proper duvets, and a well-heated common room. Tonight, hydration and an early dinner are more important than a late evening. The walk covers approximately 10 kilometres in 5 to 6 hours.
Max. Elevation:4,410 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 07
Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,100 ft) to Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) — 5 hours
The trail from Dingboche climbs to the Thukla Pass (4,620 m), where a deeply moving collection of stone memorial chortens honours climbers who lost their lives on Everest and the surrounding peaks. Some of the names here are famous; all of them represent lives lived at altitude. Above the pass, the path follows the rocky lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier through an increasingly stark and otherworldly landscape of boulders, frozen streams, and glacial debris. Lobuche (4,910 m / 15,712 ft) is a small cluster of lodges perched at the edge of the glacier — the Mountain Lodges of Nepal property here is the highest-quality accommodation available at this altitude and provides a genuinely warm and well-appointed base before the most important day of the trek. Sleep well. Drink water. Eat a good dinner at your own expense from the lodge menu.
Max. Elevation:4,910 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 08
Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,140 m / 16,448 ft) and Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,165 ft) — Overnight at Gorakshep
The day that justifies the journey. Setting off early from Lobuche, the trail winds across the undulating surface of the Khumbu Glacier's lateral moraine for approximately 3 hours before arriving at Gorakshep (5,140 m / 16,448 ft) — a small collection of lodges on a frozen lakeside flat at the edge of the Khumbu. Drop your pack, eat something, and drink water. Then comes the final push: 2 more hours across rocky glacial terrain to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,165 ft), threading between towering ice seracs and frozen meltwater channels until the multicoloured tents of active expeditions and the prayer flags of Base Camp come into view. Standing there — at the foot of the world's highest mountain, at the starting point of every Everest summit attempt — is a moment that words consistently fail to capture adequately. Take as long as you need. Return to Gorakshep for your final night on the mountain. Tomorrow you fly home in a helicopter. Tonight, rest at Gorakshep — the standard lodge at this elevation, as Mountain Lodges of Nepal do not operate at Gorakshep — and let the scale of the day settle.
Max. Elevation:5,364 m
Duration:5-6 Hours
Day 09
Helicopter Flight from Gorakshep to Kathmandu — Overnight
The helicopter departs Gorakshep in the early morning when flying conditions are optimal — typically between 7 and 9 AM depending on weather and wind. The 45-minute flight from 5,140 m to Kathmandu is one of the most extraordinary aerial journeys available anywhere in the world. As the helicopter lifts from the moraine flat, the Khumbu Glacier unfolds below, the South Face of Everest rises directly to the north, and the full sweep of the Himalayan range — Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Ama Dablam — fills the windows in every direction. This is the Himalaya from above, at close range, in a private aircraft. Most trekkers who have walked the full 5-day return route and then done the helicopter return on a subsequent trip say the aerial perspective transforms their understanding of the landscape entirely. The flight lands at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport or a nearby helipad, where a Nepal Adventure Holidays private vehicle is waiting to transfer you directly to your 5-star hotel — the Yak & Yeti or Soaltee Crowne Plaza. Check in, shower in a properly pressurised bathroom, order room service, sleep in a proper bed. The final night in Kathmandu is yours to enjoy as you see fit.
Max. Elevation:5,164 m
Duration:30-45 Min
Day 10
Final Departure from Kathmandu
The last morning. Depending on your international departure time, the day may include a late hotel breakfast, a visit to Boudhanath Stupa or Thamel, a spa session at the hotel, or simply the extended luxury of doing nothing after 9 days of sustained effort. Nepal Adventure Holidays arranges your private vehicle transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport at whatever time your flight requires. As the plane climbs south over the Kathmandu valley on a clear morning, the Himalayan peaks are visible one final time through the window — the same summits you stood beneath eight days ago, now a white horizon above the city. The Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek with Helicopter Return is an experience that does not repeat for most people. Nepal Adventure Holidays makes it worth every moment.

The Helicopter Return — What to Expect
Charter Helicopter return from Gorakshep (5140m) to Kathmandu is central to this luxurious tour and totally redefines the end of this trekking experience. Instead of the 5 days spent retracing the trekking route back through Lobuche, Dingboche, Namche and Phakding prior to flying to Kathmandu, on morning 9 you embark on a private helicopter charter from Gorakshep and land in Kathmandu just 45 minutes later. The helicopter flies above the Khumbu Glacier, past the base of Lhotse's South face, and along the high Himalayas before descending through the foothills to the valley of Kathmandu. Seeing the views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, and the sweep of the Khumbu from high altitude is unbelievable – it is considered the highlight of a Nepal visit by many who have completed both a trekking return and a helicopter return.
The timing of Gorakshep helicopter returns is dictated by weather conditions, with early morning departures generally preferred for the clearest visibility and calmest winds. Nepal Adventure Holidays confirms bookings and flight timings with licensed Nepali helicopter companies and checks weather forecasts on a daily basis from the village of Lobuche onwards. Should a morning helicopter flight be cancelled due to weather, the return flight will be re-scheduled and the group remains in Gorakshep until conditions permit the flight. Mandatory insurance covering helicopter evacuation to 6000m is required and authority needs to be provided to the company before boarding. Passenger weight limitations apply to all high-altitude helicopter flights and Nepal Adventure Holidays will provide the necessary guidelines upon booking, as seats will be allocated on a weighted basis. One small carry-on bag is allowed per trekker in the helicopter. Your main duffel will be returned to Kathmandu by road with the porter team.
5-Star Hotel Accommodation in Kathmandu
The Yak & Yeti Hotel and the Soaltee Crowne Plaza are the two most classic and esteemed 5-star hotels in Kathmandu, both linked for many years with Himalayan climbing and overseas visits. The Yak & Yeti occupies a colonial Rana palace in central Kathmandu with charming accommodation, several restaurants (including the excellent Chimney Restaurant) , a full-service spa and an outside swimming pool as well as all the services that many years catering for world mountaineers and cosmopolitan travellers entails.
Set in large gardens close to the airport, the Soaltee Crowne Plaza also boasts luxuriously appointed rooms and numerous other amenities in the shape of dining, health club and spa and business services. At both of these two hotels, only your room and breakfast meal will be covered by the package price. Other meals, drinks and hotel services will be at your own cost.
Mountain Lodges of Nepal
MLN (Mountain Lodges of Nepal) operate a high-altitude lodge network in the Khumbu that stands in a class above the rest. These modern purpose-built lodges are located on the EBC trekking trail at altitudes ranging between Phakding to Lobuche and cater to a very different market. All MLN lodges have either private or semi-private en-suite rooms with proper mattress and duvets, proper furniture in a heated common room, good quality menus cooked by a well-trained kitchen staff, hot solar water and an overall level of cleanliness and service that make the altitude significantly more comfortable to deal with. MLN lodges are located in Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche/Deboche, Dingboche and Lobuche, essentially all the stops on the EBC route below Gorakshep. Your accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis: only the room and breakfast on that day is included in your price. Lunch and dinner are ordered off the menu from the lodges and paid for directly, which is how we allow for flexibility in choice of food on the mountain.
Accommodation in Gorakshep (5,140m). Since MLN does not have lodges above Lobuche, you will be accommodated in the best available of the basic Gorakshep teahouses. There are not a huge number of teahouses available and the facilities are basic at this altitude but the best-available and most efficient service will be arranged by Nepal Adventure Holidays. Breakfast is included on this occasion as you only spend one night in the teahouse before taking the helicopter from Gorakshep.
Transportation and Flights During Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
You'll have an early morning 35-minute domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (on Tara Air or Summit Air) to fly before valley clouds come into Lukla. Flights are arranged and domestic terminal transfers are arranged by Nepal Adventure Holidays. A private car will pick you up from your 5-star hotel at around 5AM on Day 2 to drive to the domestic terminal. Your luggage will be split into two: cabin daypack (which you will carry with you) and main duffel (which you will have transferred to your porter). Domestic flight baggage allowance is very strict, so let us know when booking, so we can verify the allowance for the date.
Flight delays in Lukla due to weather may occur, so keep your international flight time somewhat flexible when making arrangements. You will return from the mountains via a private charter helicopter, arranged and booked with licensed operators by Nepal Adventure Holidays. All private vehicle transfers within Kathmandu are included in the price; hotel-to-domestic airport, helipad-to-hotel and hotel-to-international airport.
Food and Dining on the EBC Trek with Heli Return
On the mountain this is a bed & breakfast package – your lodge breakfast is included at each of the Mountain Lodges of Nepal establishments, plus at the lodge in Gorakshep on Day 8. Lunches and dinners during the trek are not included in the package price. You pay for these meals as you order directly from the menus of each lodge or teahouse along the route, which gives you freedom to choose your meal and the amount you wish to spend on the mountain rather than being fixed to a set meal.
At Mountain Lodges of Nepal premises the food standards are considerably higher than in ordinary teahouses – a good standard of freshly baked bread is available at each establishment; a larger variety of protein than usual (yak, chicken, eggs, pulses); tasty Nepali dishes cooked to a higher standard; a choice of continental dishes cooked reasonably well; and in some cases an a la carte menu. At Gorakshep the choice is less diverse as it's not so easy to carry supplies to 5,140m. All hotel breakfasts are included during your stay at your Kathmandu hotel on your two hotel nights. All other meals, food, drinks and room service at your Kathmandu hotel are paid for directly.
Permits During EBC with Heli Return
All trekking permits are included in the package and prepared by Nepal Adventure Holidays before departure:
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit — checked at the Monjo gate between Phakding and Namche Bazaar
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit — checked at Lukla and at various checkpoints along the route
TIMS Card (Trekkers' Information Management System) — included for all Nepal Adventure Holidays package trekkers
Carry all permits on your person at all times — permit checks occur at Monjo, Namche, and higher trail points
Difficulty and Fitness Requirements During Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
The Everest Base Camp luxury trek is at least moderately difficult, and could feel tough. The luxury lodges can enhance comfort and recovery, but do little to ease the physical stress of altitude. There is less oxygen at Base Camp (5,364m), about half as much as at sea level. Daily activity, relatively effort-free at home, requires constant effort; your body will be in a state of sustained physiological stress from Day 6. The trek between Lobuche, Gorakshep and Base Camp covers rough glacial moraine terrain, which requires careful footing and a steady balance. Daily trekking durations on the climb vary from 3 hours (the acclimatisation day) to 7-8 hours (on the longer trekking days).
A serious commitment to physical preparation is essential, including 10-12 weeks of cardiovascular training and some hill walking with a loaded pack, plus leg strength training. Travelers who are well-prepared will truly appreciate the lodges on the trek. Travellers who do not physically prepare for this trip will gain little from a comfortable lodge at extreme altitude.
Acclimatization During Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
A single day at Namche Bazaar is used for an acclimatization (Day 4) and the ascent to Everest View Hotel ridge (3880m) is done by following 'climb high, sleep low' rule. Except for that, all the ascents are carefully planned so that the total altitude gain for sleeping purposes is within 300-500m each night over the altitude 3000m. Staying in luxury lodges makes it much easier for you to acclimatize as good food and room to sleep will enable your body to adapt to the change unlike damp and cold rooms in teahouses.
Guides examine all the trekkers daily from Namche onward and do not allow the group to go ahead if someone is not recovering from sickness. Drink at least 3-4 liters of water every day, give up on alcohol after Namche and speak your feelings to your guide at every step of your expedition.
Altitude Sickness During Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
It doesn't matter if you're fit, young, have trekked to high altitudes before or whatever your age, if you go above 2,500 m you could develop Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Risk is apparent at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and needs to be managed closely. Minor AMS (headache, nausea, lethargy, sleep disturbance) becomes commonplace above 4,000 m, and this needs management in terms of hydration and rest. Moderate to serious AMS, HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) are medical emergencies and necessitate immediate descent and helicopter rescue.
Our Nepal Adventure Holidays guides are experienced in high-altitude sickness recognition and emergency first response. Emergency helicopter rescue is available from anywhere along the route through our Kathmandu office. It is essential that your travel insurance covers helicopter rescue to at least 6,000 m - this is not optional. Consult your physician about medication such as Diamox (Acetazolamide) prior to the trek. For a full guide toAMS symptoms, prevention and treatment please read the Nepal Adventure Holidays Altitude Sickness Guide given to you at the pre-trek briefing.
Travel Insurance for Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for this package and is not included. Since this trekking itinerary goes to Everest Base Camp at 5,364m and includes a charter helicopter return from 5,140m, it is imperative that your policy clearly covers high-altitude trekking to 6,000m (minimum) and emergency helicopter evacuation. A helicopter evacuation from Gorakshep (or higher) to Kathmandu will cost $4,000 - $6,000 without insurance, so have your policy printed out, keep your emergency assistance numbers easily accessible and submit a copy of your insurance details to Nepal Adventure Holidays before we fly to Lukla.
The helicopter provider will ask for insurance authorization before allowing you to board for your charter return on Day 9. Useful providers: World Nomads, Covermore, Battleface (compare high altitude adventure trekking cover).

Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return FAQs
How does the helicopter return work?
On Day 9, a private charter helicopter departs Gorakshep (5,140 m) in the early morning for a 45-minute direct flight to Kathmandu. The flight covers the full Khumbu range aerially, delivering views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and the glacier system below. Nepal Adventure Holidays books and coordinates the charter through licensed Nepali operators. Departure time is weather-dependent — typically 7 to 9 AM. Each trekker carries one small bag in the helicopter; the main duffel returns by road with the porter team and is waiting at the hotel on arrival. Your travel insurance must authorise the flight before boarding.
What are Mountain Lodges of Nepal?
Mountain Lodges of Nepal (MLN) is the premier luxury accommodation network in the Khumbu region, operating purpose-built high-altitude lodges from Phakding to Lobuche. MLN lodges offer private or near-private rooms, quality bedding and duvets, solar-heated water, trained kitchen staff, well-stocked menus, and heated common areas. They represent a fundamentally different category of mountain accommodation from standard teahouses and are specifically designed for trekkers who prioritise comfort and quality alongside the trekking experience. Accommodation is bed and breakfast based on this package — breakfast is included, lunch and dinner are at your own expense from the lodge menu.
Why is lunch and dinner excluded from the package?
This package operates on a bed and breakfast basis on the mountain, which is the standard arrangement for luxury lodge trekking in the Khumbu. MLN lodges offer an à la carte or set menu for lunch and dinner, and trekkers choose and pay for their own meals. This gives you complete flexibility over food choices and daily spending on the trail rather than being locked into a fixed full-board arrangement. Your 5-star hotel breakfast in Kathmandu is included. Budget approximately USD 30 to 60 per day for lunch and dinner at MLN lodges.
What is the weight limit on the helicopter?
High-altitude helicopter operations have strict weight limits per passenger, including hand luggage. Nepal Adventure Holidays will confirm the specific weight allowance per person at the time of booking — typically 10 to 15 kg total including the passenger's body weight contribution to the payload calculation. Your main duffel bag is NOT carried on the helicopter; it returns by road from Gorakshep. Bring a daypack of 25 to 30 litres for the helicopter flight with your most essential items. If any trekker significantly exceeds weight limits, additional charter arrangements may be required at extra cost.
Is the 5-star hotel the same on arrival and departure?
Yes — the Yak & Yeti Hotel or Soaltee Crowne Plaza (or similar 5-star property) is your base for both Day 1 (arrival night) and Day 9 (helicopter return night). Both nights are on a bed and breakfast basis. The two nights at the same property gives you a comfortable and familiar base at the beginning and end of the trek, and the contrast between your departure condition on Day 2 and your arrival condition on Day 9 is one of the more satisfying moments of the entire experience.
What if the helicopter is delayed by weather?
Helicopter departures from Gorakshep require safe visibility and wind conditions. If weather delays the scheduled departure, Nepal Adventure Holidays will reschedule for the next available window, which may be later the same day or the following morning. An additional night at Gorakshep would be required if the delay extends overnight. This is rare but possible — build flexibility into your international connection to accommodate it. Your travel insurance should cover trip delay and additional accommodation costs arising from weather-related delays.
Is there a minimum group size for this package?
The helicopter charter is typically arranged on a shared basis within your group. Nepal Adventure Holidays can accommodate groups from 2 to 8 trekkers on this package. Solo trekkers may be joined with another compatible group for the helicopter flight to manage charter costs. Contact our team for solo trekker pricing and logistics. Private departures for specific group sizes can also be arranged on request.
Do I need prior trekking experience for this trek?
Prior trekking experience is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. The luxury accommodation improves comfort significantly, but the altitude demands at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Gorakshep (5,140 m) are real and require genuine physical preparation. Anyone who has completed multi-day trekking at any altitude and who commits to a 10 to 12 week preparation programme will be well-positioned to complete this trek. First-time high-altitude trekkers should consider the 9-day Everest Panorama Trek or 14-day standard EBC route first, unless they have strong general fitness and a commitment to serious pre-trek training.
What permits are required and are they included?
The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit, and TIMS Card are all required and included in the package. Nepal Adventure Holidays prepares all permits before departure. No separate arrangements are needed from the trekker.
Can I combine this with a Kathmandu city tour?
Yes. Nepal Adventure Holidays can arrange additional pre or post-trek nights at the 5-star hotel in Kathmandu combined with guided city tours covering Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Patan. Contact us at the time of booking to add Kathmandu sightseeing to your package.
This tour covers a lot in one day, so be prepared for some walking! The guide was patient and answered all our questions. The only minor issue was the midday heat, but the company provided water, which helped. Overall, a great way to see Kathmandu’s UNESCO treasures in a short time.

Best Trekking Company in Nepal!
From the moment we booked, the team at Nepal Adventure Holidays was professional and attentive. The Manaslu trek was challenging but rewarding, with diverse landscapes from lush forests to high-altitude passes. The porters were friendly, and the food was surprisingly good. Will trek with them again!
